Reception News

Reception have been learning about the story Handa's Surprise! We have had a very exciting 2 weeks learning about the differences between England and Africa, discovering the animals that live in Africa and learning about their habitats. In literacy we have re-told and sequenced the story Handa's Surprise. In art we have made some beautiful drawings of the fruits that Handa had in her basket and we had a go at weaving. In maths we have been learning to add 2 numbers together using addition stories and number lines.

Reception Trip to Paxton Pitts Nature Reserve

The Reception children were nature detectives this week at Paxton Pitts Nature Reserve and enjoyed lots of outdoor activities. They listened to a lovely story called ‘The Tale of the Great Ouse’ before arriving. They were greeted by a letter in a golden envelope, but who could it be from? The children followed the clues to find out that it was from dragonfly.

There were so many things to make: otter holts, nature crowns and ponds to name a few! There were also so many things to find, both in the pond and amongst the old willow trees. We found some amazing creatures and the children were so careful and gentle when they put them back in their homes.

It was a lovely first school trip for the children and we were so proud of how well they all did. The staff at Paxton Pitts were impressed by the way the children showed our school values and said that they would be so pleased to see Wootton Primary School children again
